Aditya Roy Kapoor is an Indian film actor who works in Hindi films.  Following his career as a VJ on Channel V, he made his film debut with a small role in London Dreams and later appeared as a supporting actor in the films Action Replayy and Guzaarish.  He became quite popular after his role as the lead actor in the 2013 film Aashiqui 2.  The romantic drama film was a huge success and the songs of the film remained at the top of the chartbusters for a long time.  In 2013, he also appeared in a supporting role in the film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and the film was one of the highest grossing films of Bollywood.  He has also received many awards.

 Aditya was born in Mumbai.  His father was Punjabi.  His mother's name is Salome Roy Kapoor who did modeling, also worked with Deb Banerjee in the film Tu Hi Meri Zindagi.  Later she also became a film choreographer and she is known for her choreography for the song Main Shayar To Nahi from the film Bobby.  He is the youngest of three brothers.  Her elder brother Siddharth Roy Kapur is the CEO of UTV Motion Pictures who is married to the famous film actress Vidya Balan.  His other elder brother Kunal Roy Kapur is also an actor who has worked in films like Delhi Belly and Nautanki Saala.  Presently he lives in Mumbai.  Aditya is not a trained actor but has taken dance lessons and diction classes to improve his Hindi.  According to him, he had no intention of becoming an actor and was content with his VJ job until he was offered a role in London Dreams.  During his school time, he wanted to become a cricketer but left cricket coaching classes after the sixth grade.


 Studies-

 Aditya did his schooling from GD Somani Memorial School, Mumbai.  All his brothers also studied from there and his mother also used to direct school plays there.  He graduated from St. Xavier's College.


 career-

 Debut and initial struggle in films-

 Kapoor started his career as a VJ with Channel V where his comic timing and unique style of hosting made him a hit.  She then made her film debut in 2009 with a small role in Vipul Shah's musical drama London Dreams starring Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn.  Critics rejected the film and the film failed at the box office.



 Aditya then appeared in the science fiction romantic comedy Action Replayy starring Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles.  Vipul Shah also directed this film.  This film also did not get good response from critics and the film could not do any special collection.  After this, he appeared on screen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's drama film Guzaarish along with Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai.  The film could not do any good business but it got good response from critics.


 Aashiqui 2 became the turning point of the career-

 Reached the peak of popularity with Aashiqui 2.  This film acted as a breakthrough for him and was the turning point of his career.  He was in the lead role in this Mohit Suri film in which his heroine was Shraddha Kapoor.  It was a sequel to Mahesh Bhatt's Aashiqui.  The plot and characters of both the films were different but the style and theme of both the films were almost same.  The film received a good response from critics and Kapoor's performance of the alcohol-battling singer was appreciated.  His on-screen chemistry with his co-star Shraddha Kapoor also received a lot of praise.  The film did good business and was the eighth highest grossing film of 2013.



 Her next role was in Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in which she was accompanied by stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin.  Aditya's performance received a positive response and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Filmfare Awards.  The film received mixed reviews from critics and the film ranked fourth among the highest-grossing films of 2013.


 In 2014 he appeared in Habib Faisal's Daawat-e-Ishq opposite Parineeti Chopra.
