Arjit Singh

Arijit Singh is an Indian playback singer and music programmer.  He is one of the best singers of the present times.  He became very famous after his song 'Tum Hi Ho' sung in the film Aashiqui 2.  According to Arijit, apart from being a singer, he is also a badminton player, writer, movie freak and documentary maker.

 Despite being popular, neither he gives much interview nor does he like to be photographed.  Singh was also arrested in September 2013 after he misbehaved with journalist Apurba Chaudhary after she had asked Singh about his divorce.  He has also been honored with many awards.

 Arijit was born in Murshidabad, West Bengal.  His father is Punjabi and his mother is Bengali.  His initial training in music took place from his home.  His grandmother used to sing.  And her aunt is trained in Indian classical music.  She also learned music from her mother, who along with singing, also plays the tabla.


 Studies

 He studied at Raja Bijay Singh High School and Shripat Singh College.  According to Singh, he was a Decent student but he was more interested in music.  Seeing his love for music, his family also decided to train him professionally.  He learned Indian classical music from Rajendra Prasad Hazari and took training in tabla playing from Dhirendra Prasad Hazari.  At the same time Birendra Prasad Hazari taught him Rabindra Sangeet and Pop Sangeet.


 Marriage

 Singh married his childhood friend Koel Roy on 20 January 2014 at Tarapith Temple in West Bengal.  He confirmed the news by posting a picture of the wedding on the social networking site.  This was his second marriage.  Earlier, he was married to his own co-contestant in a reality show.  This was also the second marriage of his wife Koel and he also has a girl child.


 Career start

 In 2005, he auditioned for the reality show Fame Gurukul at the behest of Rajendra Prasad Hazari as he felt that the tradition of classical music was dying out.  At first Singh was hesitant to use that opportunity.  But later he took part in it.  In this, composer Shankar Mahadevan was on the jury panel and he had a classical background.  Although Arijit lost the show in the finals, he then took part in another reality show 10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil which was a musical show between the winners of Fame Gurukul and Indian Idol.  After winning the show, Singh set up his own recording setup and started his journey with music programming.  After that, he worked as an assistant music programmer with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal-Shekhar and Mithun.  At that time, Mahadevan persuaded Arijit to lend his voice to a song composed by him but Arijit refused, saying that he wanted to become a 'popular voice' after which Mahadevan dubbed the song along with other singers.


 Journey from 2010 to 2013

 In 2010, Arijit started working with Pritam Chakraborty in three films including Golmaal 3, Crook, and Action Replayy.  In 2011, Singh made his Bollywood music debut with Mithun's song 'Phir Mohabbat', a song from Murder 2.  The song was recorded only in 2009 but was released in 2011.  After this he sang the song Raabta from the film Agent Vinod.  Apart from Agent Vinod, Singh also dubbed songs for Pritam in three other films including Players, Cocktail and Barfi.  He also sang the song 1920: Evil Returns for Chirantan Bhatt and sung the song 'Dua' for Vishal-Shekhar in the film Shanghai for which he received the Upcoming Male Playback Singer Award at the Mirchi Music Awards and in the same category.  Also nominated for the song Phir Le Aaya Hoon Dil from the movie Barfi.  Arijit got huge success and recognition from the song Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2.  He received several awards for this song, including a nomination for Best Male Playback Singer at the Filmfare Awards.  He also worked with Jeet Ganguly in other songs of the film.  After this he sang songs like Dilliwali Girlfriend, Kabira and Ilahi.  She has also sung the song 'Main Rang Sharbat Ka' picturized on Shahid and Ileana.



 She also sang the song Kashmir Main Tu Kanyakumari from the film Chennai Express featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, which was composed by Vishal Shekhar.  He considers the song 'Kabhi Jo Badal Barse' sung by him as his personal favorite song and the song 'Tose Naina' from the film Mickey Virus close to his heart.


 2014 to present

 In 2014, Arijit got a chance to work with two of his favorite music directors, Sajid-Wajid and AR Rahman.  He sang two songs in the film Main Tera Hero and also sang 'Raat Bhar' from Heropanti.  Apart from this, he sang many other songs like Samjhaan, Hamdard, Manwa Lage, Muskrune Ki Reason, Suno Na Marble, Mast Magan which were super hit and also dominated the chartbusters.  All these songs went on the tongue of the people and Arijit touched new heights as well.

 After this, in 2015, he sang the title track of Rai film Sooraj Dooba Hai and Khamoshiyan and 'Baatein Yeh Kabhi Na'.  Arijit is continuously active as one of the best singer in Bollywood.  And are making their singing iron proud.
